Aristotle really speaks to me with this quote. Joining our BL team was a big step for you in your journey to create a healthier lifestyle. But I believe we all need ongoing reminders about the best way for us to gain that victory over our selves. And, you may get tired of me reminding you, again, and again, but I'm going to say it -- what you eat is the most important aspect you own on this road to fitness.
If you are a regular visitor to our BL blog, you'll notice I've added a photo to the blog title. Take a close look, because those are the foods you should be stockpiling in your refrigerator. Colorful vegetables are dense with the nutrients your body needs and craves. Good fats, like avocado and black olives, provide fuel to promote energy and optimize performance. Berries can satisfy a craving for sugar, and contain nutrients and antioxidants. Add in your lean proteins and your whole grains (if you are a grain person) and you will be eating REAL FOOD. Not processed, not "fortified with iron and vitamins," not swimming in preservatives... REAL FOOD. Help yourself to victory!
Well - there was a party at my house last night. We had SO MUCH FOOD thanks to my mother in large part! There was low-fat venison, a veggie tray, strawberries and guacamole. There was also, however, a large variety of cheesy dips and chips - mayonnaise galor, carbs a plenty. Honestly, I think I really didn't eat much - there was so much going on I didn't even prepare a plate and I had not had dinner prior to the party. As such, I admit to having had a bit more vodka than I should have but did it right with club soda and a lime slice. Good but not as calorie-laden as many other drinks.
ReplyDeleteThis morning was a bit rough as you might imagine. I did succomb to a few hashbrowned potatoes and an english muffin at the First Watch. But there was also fresh fruit, two eggs and some avacado. This evening I enjoyed a sweet potato, served simply, with a tad bit of salt. Yummo. I'm working the green veggies and finding that I'm not hungry. Pretty cool.
Special thanks to all the ideas and support from Maddy. Follow her lead, she'll help us all get where we want to be!
I roasted chicken pieces with a drizzle of olive oil, tossed in carrots, yellow bell pepper, onion and some herbs. All in one pan, easy dinner but very tasty. Check out Saturday comments for my protein shake revalation if you have not already seen it.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing I ate dinner before checking the blog. Yesterday, we grilled whole chickens so today we obviously had leftovers. Ate some chicken (without the skin), sauteed spinach in some olive oil with a side of this multigrain rice blend I purchased from Costco.
ReplyDeleteWell ladies and gentleman, im am the cook at home and when it comes to being off "the sweets" my one true love in life, I am faced with what to eat constantly. I miss two of my best friends Ben & Jerry (That was an ice cream reference for those of you like Maddy who haven't had ice cream sine 1982.) Nonetheless, as long as i have a somewhat satisfy meal the urge is a bit easier to control. I recently made grilled pork chops: lean center cut pork chops, soy sauce, sesame oil, and sesame seeds. Marinate a few hours and grill...or stove-top i guess if you prefer. Put it with a side of asparagus and you should be delighted.
ReplyDeleteI am completely delighted with this post Joe! You are doing great!
ReplyDeleteAll these recipes are making me hungry! :-)
ReplyDeleteI second what Jenny said about the homemade protein shakes satisfying my cravings - it's really amazing.
I also made homemade nut butter in my food processor yesterday - oh my word, it is fantastic! I will have to carefully measure out portions to bring for work snacks.
